The Super 15 is the largest rugby union football club championship in the southern hemisphere, consisting of provincial teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Stormers vs Bulls Preview :
The stats show that the Stormers beat the Bulls 10-38 in the regular season matches last year but that result doesn't really count as the Bulls rested almost their entire squad as the next round was the play offs and they had already sealed a home semi and potential home final.
The reality is that the Stormers have not really beaten the Bulls since 2004 and a year earlier in 2003 since they won at Loftus.
The result is that seven of the Bulls' stalwarts have not lost a Super Rugby game against a fellow South African side in 13 outings.
The last time Bulls centre Wynand Olivier, scrumhalf Fourie du Preez, flyhalf Morne Steyn, No 8 Pierre Spies, lock Danie Rossouw and prop Gurthro Steenkamp felt the disappointment of losing a South African derby was 13 games ago, against the Sharks on 1 March 2008.
Victor Matfield boasts an even better record. The defending champions' captain and lock last lost to a South African team back in February of 2007, when his team suffered a 17-3 loss to The Sharks in Durban.
Matfield missed the Super Rugby season in 2008, when he was playing club rugby for Toulon in France.
These seven players have been instrumental in the recent success of the Pretoria team, winning back to back Super 14 titles in 2009 and 2010.
Their winning streak against South African opposition includes a victory against the Stormers in last year's memorable final in Soweto.
Only one player in the Stormers squad for 2011, veteran fullback Conrad Jantjes, knows that winning Super Rugby feeling at Loftus playing against the Bulls and unfortunately for the Stormers Jantjies will miss this game due to injury (Achilles strain).
Jantjes wasn't even part of the Stormers when he tasted victory over the Bulls as he was part of the Cats team that beat the Bulls 44-31 way back on 23 February 2002.
Apart from winning their last three matches against the Stormers at Loftus Versfeld, the Bulls also took the spoils in last year's Super 14 final, played at Orlando Stadium in Soweto and treated as a home game to them because of the unavailability of their Pretoria fortress.
Two of these games - the 14-75 massacre in 2005 and the 12- 49 loss in 2007, still rank as two of the Stormers' biggest ever defeats. In 2009 they fared much better, losing by only 10-14 in Pretoria.
