Several stars of this summer's Battle of Chicago take the floor in Poland on Saturday. Polish National Team goalie and icon Slawomir Szmal plays his club handball for RNL in Mannheim now. Odds are, he'll still be cheered by the hometown Polish faithful, as he's already signed for Kielce for the 2011 campaign! Szmal is joined by Polish National Team favorite Karol Bielecki, who has come back from a horrific eye injury during the spring, and is a fan favorite in both countries. RNL fans also enjoy the speed and acrobatics of German National Teamer Patrick Groetzki on the wing and the brawn of circle Oliver Roggisch.
A largely Polish contingent leads Kielce, including National Team vets Michal Jurecki and Mariusz Jurasik. Jurasik will have a special feeling in this game as he’ll meet his old teammates from the "Lions" where he played until 2009.Host Kielce are still waiting for their first points in the Champions League although their play was well-regarded in a 33-29 defeat at Kiel last Sunday. They lost their Champions League opener against HC Celje (Slovenia) so they will now want to show their frenetic audience that they’re still a candidate for the Last 16.
